The literature emphasizes the importance in considering the student's thought in the planning and teaching development. The objective of this study was to characterize the personal perceptions of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students (n=123) that feel to have high and low ability perception in physical education classes. The data were collected through closed-questions questionnaire. The statistical treatment was accomplished through clusters analysis. The perceived competence, perception of academic involvement and perception of teachers' expectations were different among the students that had high and low ability perception.
