Modern cities present social and environmental problems due to their linear metabolism, which is conductive to imminent collapse. This paper reports on the urban metabolism of the municipalities of Toluca and Metepec located in central part of Mexico. For this purpose, the Material and Flow Energy Analysis (AFME) from 2000 to 2019 was used considering both locations as open thermodynamic systems. The inputs were: electricity, fuel and water consumption; and the outputs were: CO2 emissions (derived from electricity and gasoline burning), wastewater and urban solid waste production.
