This report begins to paint an interesting portrait of the social economy in BC and Alberta. It was created through the BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance (BALTA). This alliance was initially started as a 5 year project in March 2006 funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and then later extended to 2012. The purpose of this alliance was to build a better understanding of the social economy sector in Alberta and BC. The Mapping and Portraiture team, in particular, implemented a survey to better describe the size and scope of the social economy in these provinces.
