Method development for the determination of vanadium in drinking water with ultrasonic nebulazation and ICP-AES

Dit rapport beschrijft de methode-ontwikkeling voor de bepaling van vanadium in drinkwater met behulp van ICP-AES met toepassing van ultrasone verstuiving. Het onderzoek omvatte spectraalonderzoek voor de lijnkeuze, optimalisatie van de meetcondities, onderzoek naar memory-effecten en vaststellen van de diverse prestatiekenmerken. ICP-AES met ultrasone verstuiving bleek een zeer geschikte techniek voor de bepaling van vanadium in drinkwater te zijn . De onderste analysegrens werd vastgesteld op 0,4 mug/l. De precisie op het niveau van 25 mug/l en hoger, uitgedrukt als relatieve standaarddeviatie van de metingen, was beter dan 2%. Matrix-effecten speelden een geringe rol, met afwijkingen tot gemiddeld zo'n 7 %. Memory-effecten waren verwaarloosbaar bij een iets langere spoeltijd dan met conventionele (concentrische) verstuiving. Ondanks dat blijft deze techniek snel in vergelijking met andere atoomspectrometrische technieken zoals grafietoven-atomaire absorbtie spectrometrie.This report deals with the method development for the determination of vanadium in drinking water using ICP-AES and ultrasonic nebulization. The method development included spectral investigations for line selection, optimization of the measurement conditions, investigations concerning memory effects and assessment of the performance characteristics. ICP-AES with ultrasonic nebulization turned out to be a very suitable technique for the determination of vanadium in drinking water. The detection limit of the method was 0.4 mug/l. Precision at a concentration level of 25 mug/l and higher, expressed as a relative standard deviation, was better than 2%. Matrix effects played a minor role with deviations up to an average of 7%. Memory effects were negligable at a slightly longer rinsing time compared to conventional (concentric) nebulization. Despite that the technique is rapid in comparison to other atomic spectrometric techniques like graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.RIV
