An Internet-based programme in the Netherlands promoting a healthy lifestyle for pregnant women is suitable for implementation in midwifery practices. However, the programme is not equally accessible to all women. This is concluded from a pilot project among 25 midwifery practices in Amsterdam. This pilot project was evaluated by RIVM upon commission of the Dutch Ministry of Welfare, Health and Sport. From March till August 2006 almost 1400 pregnant women were given information on the Internet-based lifestyle programme by their midwives. This programme consists of monthly e-mails which contain interactive information about pregnancy and nutrition, physical activity, alcohol use, and smoking and safety.
