This report describes quantitative risk assessment for the pathogenic protozoan parasite Cryptosporidium parvum in drinking water, for an urban population drinking tap water produced by conventional treatment of surface water. Emphasis is on quantitative description of varation and uncertainty in contributing factors: raw water concentration, efficiency of detection procedures, effects of successive treatment stages, human consumption, and infectivity. The health impact is translated into DALYs, an integrated effect measure on the population level that is well suited for risk comparision or risk balancing.
