The Role of Fisheries Cooperatives And the Management Problems of Fish Culture Sectors of Nagasaki Prefecture. ～Special Reference to Problems of Funds

Nagasaki Prefecture is one of the leading aquaculture Prefectures throughout Japan. From Rito Island to various other islands, there exists a multitude of aquaculture localities throughout the Nagasaki Prefecture. The existing Fisheries Cooperative Associations in each of the Fishing villages serve basically as centres for fisheries of that particular area. In the aquaculture areas there are production, sales, and credit services specially related to the management of aquaculture. Recently in some areas there has been cases of fishermen leaving the Fishery Cooperatives. Base on this fact the question of what kind of impression and what sort of effect will this exert on the aquaculture management arise. Historically the kind of development trend that followed up till now has been investigated. At the same time the original role the Cooperatives must accomplish was considered. According to the contents of the Fisheries balance sheet the economic position of the Fisheries Cooperative Associations is obvious. In the places where severe cases of Fishermen leaving the Cooperatives, various hinderances have occured in the aquaculture management. Thus, it is expected of the Fisheries Cooperative Associations to serve the purpose of been the center of the fisheries of their areas
