After the trial of Madame Bovary, whenever Flaubert’s works were published, they invited sharp criticism and received deep sympathy from literature experts and readers. Especially, in the 20th century, the novelists of the nouveau roman, Michel Tournier et Michel Butor, recognized him as a pioneer in the contemporary literature, and Flaubert’s novels has become one of the most primary targets of new criticism.
