In order to analyze steady-state and transient performances of a synchronous motor, the mathematical models have been developed by Park and Clarke. Park transformed the stator variables to the rotor reference frame which eliminates the time-varying inductances in the voltage equations. Clarke used the stator reference frame. On the other hand, a flux oriented reference frame is needed to study the vector control of the synchronous motor. In this paper, a model of a three-phase salient-pole synchronous motor with damper windings is proposed by using an arbitrary reference frame. The above mentioned models are easily derived from the proposed model
