Since the construction scale of structures becomes larger and their configuration becomes more complicated, the numbers of design variables and constraint conditions increase, and their optimum design falls into a difficulty in the numerical caluculation. therefor, it is necessary to follow an optimum design using suboptimization. At the present study a method of suboptimization is applied, and the dimensions of individual sections of segments are determined by fully stressed design, and the dimensions of sections common to the whole structure are determined by SUMT method. The results of an optimum design carried out for I-section girders almost coincide with those by an ordinary method
