We conducted a study of the correlation between numerical chromosomal aberrations and cell proliferation capacity in colon cancer using FISH, PCNA, Ki-67, DNA polymerase α, and DNA ploidy. The LI of Ki-67 and DNA polymerase a did not show a correlation with any pathological factors. However, the PCNA LI showed a correlation with mitotic index, and a correlation was also observed between venous invasive factors and lymphatic invaseve factors. A high level of the PCNA LI therefore thought to indicate a high degree of melignancy, thus requiring extremely close follow-up. Among chromosomes No. 7, 11, and 17, a correlation was observed between numerical aberrations in chromosome 17 and the PCNA Ll
