京都府中部を流れる川。丹波高原大悲山から亀岡盆地までを大堰川、亀岡盆地から保津峡までを保津川、保津峡から淀川に入るまでを桂川と呼ぶ。保津は、「安らかな津」の意味であるが、保津川は流れが急で、岩床が露頭している所も多い。写真は、川下り用と思われる屋根付きの船の船首で棹を操る人と、露出した岩の上を行く人が2人見える。A river in the central part of Kyoto Prefecture. The Oseki River runs from Daihisan in Tabata Hills to Kameoka Basin, the Hozu River between Kameoka Basin and Hozukyo, and the Katsura River between Hozukyo and Yodo River. Hozu means "peaceful harbour", but the river is rapid, and rocks frequently appear in the stream.
