SPIKIT : Android speech recognition and synthesis software

Technology has revolutionized the world as we know it. Nowadays people do not interact so much face-to-face because phones have been added to the equation. New generation phones which go by the name of smart phones have swept the media and communication world by surprise. Notably however is the manner and means of data input into these devices. Although these devices use touch screen, designers and developers have relied on the use of keyboard as one of the only means the device can get user input. Accessing and using the features in these devices requires touching the screen or phone buttons available. The intention of this thesis project is implement an Android application that can receive user inputs using the users' speech command, process the information and even provide results. This can be achieved by use of speech synthesis and speech recognition. These two engines are provided by Google and are available in all Android devices running version 1.6 and higher. The application will be capable of performing basic daily tasks like performing internet searches, saving and displaying records in the phone among other things. All these actions will be achieved only by use of speech commands. The application will also be able to interact with the user and perform actions as per user's desires
