Introduction. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, which affects young adults between 20–40 years old. The incidence of MS is increasing worldwide. The symptoms vary and depend on which part of the nervous system is affected. Stress is very common in patients with MS. It can be a risk factor related with relapses of the disease. Coping is defined as the behavioural and cognitive efforts used in an attempt to deal with stressful events. In a long-term treatment, disease modifying therapies are used to reduce the risk of the progression and severity of MS, and reduce the risk of disability.
