The presence of oral epics in Polish tradition is the subject of disputes and controversy. In the times of Romanticism, the image of a "great" heroic epic was created, which to a large extent does not fit in with the everyday real narrative practices in folk culture. The article compares these two epic models and describes the conditions in which folk narratives functioned, taking into account both the original context and later changes caused by technological and socio-political factors.Obecność ustnych narracji epickich w polskiej tradycji jest przedmiotem sporów i kontrowersji.
