Co tam, panie, w koalicji? Między skrzydlatym słowem a jednostką języka

The article provides an analysis of a group of Polish catch phrases and well-known quotations, such as królestwo za konia (My kingdom for a horse), Słowacki wielkim poetą był (Słowacki a great poet was), and their textual transformations. The famous texts and their variants such as Gombrowicz wielkim pisarzem był (Gombrowicz a great author was) are analysed from the perspective of their linguistic status; the paper attempts to answer the question to which level of language such phrases belong – langue or parole.The analysis shows that the discussed phrases should be seen as texts (connections of units) rather than units of language, because they are semantically regular (divisible) and/or they refer in their structure (e.g. phonetic) to actual units of language.
