According to article 11 of the Polish Constitution, political parties as a special type of social organizations shall be founded on the principles of voluntariness and the equality of Polish citizens. Their purpose shall be to influence the formulation of the policy of the State by democratic means. The Republic of Poland shall ensure freedom for the creation and functioning of such organisations. Among main principles established in the Polish Constitution there is a principle of supreme authority of the people specified in article 4.
