The eucharistic miracles in Sokółka and Legnica have made Poland an area of increased religious activity. A demand for an intense spiritual experience arising from contact with extraordinary artefacts – bleeding hosts – has been introduced into the traditional pilgrimage framework. The new sacred places have revealed, partially at least, the condition of Polish religiosity, indicating the es sential role of the traditional factor. This paper, based on the author’s research conducted in Sokółka and Legnica, presents reflections and conclusions concerning the emergence and development of the veneration and the influence of Eucharistic miracles on local inhabitants, pilgrims and tourists.
