The article presents a synthetic analysis of three ways in which evil was understood over centuries in philosophical and religious thought. First, evil was construed as something absolute. Then, since the times of I. Kant it has been predominantly limited to the moral content. This type of evil is referred to in philosophy as radical evil. H. Arendt, when interpreting F. Nietzsche’s philosophy in the context of A.
