Most of the literature on race, racism, and the racial social structure in the United States tends to limit the discussion to a strict white/black analysis, while the literature on social reproduction focuses on class reproduction processes. Furthermore, much of the work on racial identity focuses on white and black native-born Americans, largely ignoring racial identity development for newcomers. My research utilizes key concepts from the racial social structure literature and the social reproduction literature to develop the theoretical concept of racial reproduction.
