Al-hubb al-wujudy dalam sufisme Ibn ‘Arabi

Love in Ibn Arabi's sufism has long been defined as a love that leads up to self-negation and uproots the human worldliness and timeliness. This dissertation--which discusses the relationship between love, timeliness and worldliness in Ibn Arabi's sufism--opposes the assumption that the love in Ibn Arabi uproots from timeliness and worldliness. This distinctiveness will be termed by the researcher as al-Hubb al-Wujudy; a kind of perception of love within the framework of human existential searching and exploring process in the time horizon. Al-Hubb al-Wujudy, the love for the ‘Being’ (Al-Wujud) is not only considered as an reflective or knowledge but at the same time, al-Haqq is discovered and lived up through the life-world of a Sufi. The love in Ibn Arabi's Sufism is also claimed as the love rooted in the philosophy and mysticism of other religions. In contrast to the theses and arguments, this dissertation shows that the love of Ibn Arabi is rooted in the recognition of sufism and remain to concern to the primary assumptions and Islamic worldview which are extracted from the authoritative sources of the Koran & Hadith. In the end, it is contrary to the claim said that Sufism only focuses on "self-godliness" and "the well-being of the individual", al-Hubb al-Wujudy emphasises the love of Ibn Arabi is a love focuses on "social godliness", public well-being and self-dedication to - and for the sake of - global humanity to transcend the boundaries of religion, gender, ethnicity and nature. The method used to examine the love in Ibn Arabi’s sufism is Heidegger's existential-phenomenology which provides a new direction in questioning ‘Being’ radically. If the phenomenology, in general, brings back ‘Being’ to be lived up in the life-world and everyday life (Lebenswelt) before any philosophical or theological assumptions put it away, the phenomenological understanding of Sufism in this paper is attempt to investigate the love for Being (Al-Wujud ) which has coloured the long history of human religiosity, then brings it back as an existential event of human faith. In understanding al-Hubb al-Wujudy, the discussion about love for Being (Al-Wujud) is always paradoxical. In the paradox, there is an exposure which makes it impossible for humans to provide a definitive and adequate explanation for Being because of their limits mode of temporality and existence. The discourse of al-Hubb al-Wujudy in Ibn Arabi restates the issue of love for Being (Al- Wujud ) to the happening or event of Being (‘Ereignis’ in Heidegger's term) so that it is no longer considered beyond humanity, but something that is "lived" in and through the time horizon as al-Hubb al-Wujudy. By restating the issue of love into existential events, various projections of human religiosityare expected to be understood as spaces for sharing love experiences, not as claims to the truth of human faith on the Being (Al-Wujud ) which is beyond the limits of humanity itself so that love can be projected as a moment of human creativity in an effort to find the depth of meaning in life.
