Objectives: 1.To increase the awareness of the school community of the value of the grounds as an outdoor resource area rather than the 'green desert' environment that many New Zealand secondary schools illustrate. 2. To increase the awareness of the school community of the value of the establishment of indigenous vegetation, within the school grounds, to their children and the environment. 3. To highlight the secondary school environment of the 1980's through case studies of three Canterbury Secondary Schools. 4. To provide guide-lines that will help secondary schools to enrich and enhance the environmental value and use of their grounds, through the concepts and practice of ecological planting
