Summer planting of strawberries in Auckland using cultivar Tioga

Tioga strawberry plants were dug on the 15 May, 30 May, 16 June and 29 July 1981, and cold-stored at -2.2° until planting on the 15 December 1981, 15 January, 15 February, 15 March and 15 April, 1982. There were three harvest periods; January to June 1982, October, November, 1982, and January, February 1983. The second harvest period was the most significant. Plants from the first digging date were too immature for longterm storage and produced significantly less fruit than the later digging dates. The first planting date produces the highest mean yield. The later the planting date, the lower the mean yield. A delay in planting increased the percentage of marketable grade fruit.
