Since the performances of famous gymnasts such as Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci in the 1970s, Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) has been characterised as a problematic child sport. In addition, the combination of competing at a high level at a young age has been associated with health and psychological issues. However, recently there have been several gymnasts appearing at the highest international level of considerably older age. Very little research has examined older gymnasts and the effects of seeing 'older' bodies on the gymnastics competition floor.
