In general, Landscape Architects wish to encourage environmental and landscape awareness in future citizens so that they develop more respect and consideration for their surroundings. As D. Lucas stated in 'The Landscape' "General education of all children and adults for the better understanding of landscape values and land use options would help encourage a responsible caretaker attitude to the land resource". In New Zealand the formal education of our children is controlled by the New Zealand Education Board through the local schools and its teachers.
