Death is one of those subjects many of us in the contemporary western world like to avoid. However, its inevitability, to ourselves, and to others with whom we are associated, makes it an extremely important subject. One significant aspect of it is body disposal. This dissertation considers the design of places where this occurs. For New Zealand, design for death should be a topical subject, as it is an area with considerable scope for improvement. Many factors have contributed to unsatisfactory results.
