Biomechanics of partial dentures

Despite significant progress in all areas of dental medicine, there is still a need for the production of conventional partial dentures with periodontal support, which are an important part of modern dental prosthetics.Only a well-planned and accurately made partial prosthesis takes the main role in maintaining or restoring the harmonious function of all parts of the masticatory system for a long period of time. It is important that the clinicians providing the partial denture service understand the possible responsibilities of function and be able to design the constituent parts of the partial denture to help control of these various movements.Controlling potential movement under functional load is crucial to ensuring the best chance of stability. The consequence of the prosthesis movement under stress by loading of teeth and tissue is to exceed the physiological tolerance. To understand how intraoral forces act on partial dentures, the practitioner must begin with an understanding of basic mechanical concepts. By understanding the basis and biological response to mechanical stimuli as well understanding the biomechanics of oral structures, the long-term success of retaining partial dentures is achieved.
