BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Previous experimental studies have shown that fructose interacts with glucose metabolism by increasing hepatic glucose uptake. However, human studies investigating the effects of small ('catalytic') amounts of fructose, added to an oral glucose load, on plasma glucose levels remain inconclusive.
