Social Work with Children and Support for Children in the Event of Parental Divorce

Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with the methods used by social workers to work with children during their parents' divorce, as well as the provision of support for these children. Divorce is an incredibly stressful situation for children. During divorce proceedings, children can develop a range of psychological, social, and behavioural problems. Therefore, it is important to provide appropriate social support to these children during the divorce process. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe whether and how social workers from the Department of Social and Legal Protection of Children and social workers from non-profit organizations work with children whose parents are divorcing, as well as to identify the support that social workers can offer these children. A qualitative research approach was used, specifically the method of interviewing with semi-structured interviews. The interviews were conducted with social workers from the Department of Social and Legal Protection of Children at municipal offices with extended powers and with social workers from non-profit organizations working with children and families in the selected region.
