The speech act of compliments is a field within pragmatics that has not been sufficiently exploited in SFL teaching. In this Master's thesis, the linguistic and sociocultural aspects of giving and receiving compliments are analyzed by means of a comparative study among Czech and Spanish learners. The data collected in the survey, previously distributed among students of these nationalities, is the source of information for the subsequent elaboration of a didactic proposal, the aim of which is to bring the teaching of compliments to the SFL classroom.
