The work is dedicated to laser modules for engraving and cutting materials. The theoretical part describes the basic principle of laser technology. It is more closely focused on the func-tion of laser diodes, basic types and possible modes of operation. Futhermore, control electronics are mentioned, their power supply and controls. In the practical part, a module designed for manual engraving was constructed. The design was conceived with an emphasis on small dimensions and low weight. The achieved parameters were tested by the module attachement to machinery that has continous movement. Tests confirmed sufficient laser power for engraving and cutting low-density material.
