Efecto de la familiaridad del tema en la calidad del texto de ensayos en inglés.

Abstract The traditional pedagogical approach to teaching English as a second language has been based on simple writing exercises with the application of rules that result in insufficient knowledge, especially at the university level. A novel approach raises the learning of writing through the production of essays, which show the student's personal experience, reflections and critical thinking. But, studies of this type are rare and have shown differences in their results. In this sense, it was proposed to carry out an investigation with the objective of determining if the writing of essays on familiar topics influences the achievement of texts of greater syntactic complexity, precision and fluency than when the subject is little known and to identify grammatical errors. more frequent, to redirect the teaching work towards its improvement. A field, cross-sectional, quasi-experimental and quantitative research was carried out with a sample of six students, who wrote essays on both topics. The behavior of the variables syntactic complexity, precision and fluency was evaluated and the results were compared between students and essay subjects. The results indicated that, when familiar topics were used, the texts were longer and had fewer errors than those written with a lesser-known topic, even though simple sentences were used. It was concluded that the writing of essays based on family themes showed a higher quality of texts in terms of the variables analyzed, although grammatical errors and use of an orality characteristic of the language of origin persisted. Keywords: Syntactic complexity, Accuracy, Fluency, Writing skill, English as a second language.  Resumen El enfoque pedagógico tradicional de la enseñanza de la escritura en inglés como segunda lengua, se ha basado en ejercicios simples, con aplicación de reglas que resultan en un conocimiento insuficiente, sobre todo a nivel universitario. Un enfoque novedoso plantea el aprendizaje de la escritura mediante la producción de ensayos, que muestren la experiencia personal del estudiante, sus reflexiones y pensamiento crítico. Pero, los estudios de este tipo son escasos y han mostrado diferencias en sus resultados. En este sentido, se planteó realizar una investigación con el objetivo de determinar si la redacción de ensayos acerca de temas familiares, influye en el logro de textos de mayor complejidad sintáctica, precisión y fluidez que cuando el tema es poco conocido e identificar los errores gramaticales más frecuentes, para redireccionar el trabajo docente hacia su superación. Se realizó una investigación de campo, transversal, cuasi experimental y cuantitativa con una muestra de seis estudiantes, que redactaron ensayos con ambos temas. Se evaluó el comportamiento de las variables complejidad sintáctica, precisión y fluidez y se compararon los resultados entre estudiantes y temas de ensayo. Los resultados indicaron que, al utilizarse temas familiares, los textos fueron más extensos y con menos errores que los redactados con un tema menos conocido. Se concluyó que la redacción de ensayos basados en temas familiares mostró una calidad de textos superior en cuanto a las variables analizadas, aunque persistieron errores gramaticales y el uso de una oralidad característica de la lengua de origen.  Palabras claves: Complejidad sintáctica, Precisión, Fluidez, Habilidad de escritura, Ingles como segunda lengua. &nbsp
