peer reviewedThe discovery of the aqueous veins, proving the existence of a flow, has emphasised the importance of hydrodynamic factors in the regulation of ocular pressure. The measurement of the flow and of the resistance to the outflow has shown that most of the hypertensions are due to an obstacle in the exit-channels of the anterior segment. The same methods of investigation have demonstrated two different modes of action of the hypotonising treatments: the reduction of the resistance to the outflow and the reduction of the flow. The aim of this paper is to classify the medical and surgical treatments according to their mode of action and to deduce their indications. © 1955 Uitgeverij Dr W. Junk
