Distribuição de 137Cs em árvores frutíferas tropicais

The concentrations of 137Cs were measured from guava, mango and avocado trees, with the aim to verify how this radionuclide is transported and distributed along the tropical fruit trees. Bi-dimensionals diagrams of the radial distribution of 137Cs in the main trunk are also presented. Comparisons with a few longitudinal and radial distributions of 40K for these trees were performed. The results confirm the present knowledge on the transport and distribution of salts in fruit trees, where the specific 137Cs activity is higher in the growing parts of these trees: fruits, leaves, needles, twigs and the outer growth layers. On the other hand, it was observed that 40K radial distribution exhibits saturation for high values of 137Cs concentration. Thus, unlike for 137Cs, 40K absorption is regulated or limited by some mechanism. In addition, the bi-dimensional diagrams of the 137Cs radial distribution show more accurate results than the conventional one-dimensional diagrams, disclosing no symmetrical or homogeneous behaviors of the specific activity on either of the tree rings.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorForam feitas medidas das concentrações de 137Cs em duas goiabeiras, uma mangueira e um abacateiro com o objetivo de verificar estudar o transporte e a distribuição deste radionuclídeo em árvores frutíferas tropicais. Diagramas bi-dimensionais da distribuição radial de 137Cs no tronco principal serão apresentados. Serão feitas, também, comparações com as distribuições longitudinal e radial de 40K para estas mesmas árvores. Os resultados apresentados neste trabalho confirmam o que já é conhecido na literatura sobre o transporte e distribuição de sais em árvores frutíferas, onde a atividade específica de 137Cs é maior nas partes mais jovens destes vegetais tropicais: frutas, folhas, brotos entre outras. Por outro lado, foi observado que a distribuição radial de 40K apresenta um nível de saturação para altos valores da concentração de 137Cs. Desta forma, diferentemente para o 137Cs, a absorção de 40K é regulada ou limitada por algum mecanismo. Vale ressaltar que os diagramas bi-dimensionais da distribuição radial de 137Cs mostram resultados mais precisos que os convencionais diagramas unidimensionais, revelando nenhum comportamento simétrico ou homogêneo em todos os anéis de crescimento
