Effects of extended glaze firing protocols over flexural strength of a zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate glass-ceramic

Este trabalho teve por objetivo investigar os efeitos de protocolos de glazeamento estendido sobre a resistência flexural de uma cerâmica de silicato de lítio reforçada por zircônia. Discos de Celtra Duo®, produzidos a partir de blocos CAD/CAM e de acordo com a Norma ISO 6872/2016, foram divididos em 03 grupos (n=15). O Grupo A (GF820) foi submetido ao protocolo de glazeamento convencional sugerido pelo fabricante (dwell time de 1.5m); o Grupo B (EGF820) foi submetido ao protocolo de glazeamento estendido (dwell time de 15m) e resfriamento imediato (abertura imediata do forno), enquanto o Grupo C (EGF820-SC) recebeu o protocolo de glazeamento estendido (dwell time de 15m) e resfriamento mediato (bertura tardia do forno). Os discos foram submetidos ao teste de resistência flexural biaxial piston-on-three-ballse os resultados foram analisados pela Estatística de Weibull. Amostras de cada grupo foram analisadas por Difração de Raios-X para verificar alterações na estrutura cristalina. Os grupos não apresentaram valores de resistência característica estatisticamente diferentes, de acordo com o teste paramétrico Kruskal Wallis (p- valor=0,8246), mas o Grupo C apresentou um módulo de Weibull extremamente baixo (3.86) comparado aos Grupos A e B (6.51 e 9.05, respectivamente). O protocolo de glazeamento estendido não foi efetivo em aumentar a resistência flexural da cerâmica a base de silicato de lítio, porém não causou alterações na estrutura cristalina do material.This work aimed to investigate the effects of extended glaze firing protocols over flexural strength in a lithium silicate glass ceramic reinforced by zirconia. Discs of Celtra Duo®, produced from CAD/CAM blocks and according ISO 6872/2016, were divided in 03 groups (n=15). Group A (GF820) was submitted to conventional glaze firing protocol suggested by manufacturer; Group B (EGF820) was submitted to extended glaze firing protocol with fast cooling, while Group C (EGF820-SC) was submitted to extended glaze firing protocol with slow cooling. Discs were submitted to piston-on-thre-balls flexural strength test and results were assessed by Weibull Analysis. Specimens of each group were analysed by RX Diffraction. The groups did not present differences statistically significant in characteristic resistance values according to the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test (p-value = 0.8246), but Group C presented an extremely low Weibull modulus (3.86) compared to Groups A and B ( 6.51 and 9.05, respectively). The extended glaze firing protocol was not effective in increasing the flexural strength of lithium silicate based ceramics, but did not cause changes in the crystalline structure of the material.21f
