O Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 2 (DMT2) é definido como uma doença de caráter progressivo caracterizada por resistência à insulina e falha das células pancreáticas. Segundo a Organização mundial da saúde (OMS) em 2019, aproximadamente 1,5 milhões de mortes foram diretamente atribuídas ao diabetes. Além dos tratamentos convencionais, estudos clínicos demonstraram efeitos antidiabéticos do cacau e seus subprodutos, bem como melhor prognóstico da doença.
