The purpose of this study was to highlight the positive academic benefits to students when they are given opportunities to increase their social emotional learning as an added layer of support to their reading intervention and instruction. The studies were done in the United States within the last twelve years in elementary and middle schools in mostly urban settings. The research supported the claim that when social emotional learning was integrated into the reading intervention curriculum, students\u27 academic progress was enhanced as well as decreased behavior problems and referrals.
