One of the most painful features of Judah\u27s exile in the early sixth century B.C. was the interruption of the Davidic dynasty. The prophet Jeremiah predicted not only the fall of Jerusalem and its king but also the future rise of a legitimate Davidic scion (the shoot to be raised for David). Like Jeremiah, Ezekiel called the king of Judah (Zedekiah) to account for his spiritual unfaithfulness and contrasted the godly character of a future Davidic ruler with the wickedness of contemporary Judahite leaders
