Study on Electronic Waste Management in Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital

Electronic waste (e-waste) is one of the most rapidly growing waste problems worldwide. E-waste has a negative impact on the environment and human health if it is not adequately managed. Regulations regarding the management of e-waste are regulated in Governmental Regulation No. 27 of 2020 concerning specific waste management. However, the management of e-waste in hospitals is still unknown, so further studies are needed. Evaluation of e-waste management at Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital was conducted in this study. This study aims to determine the generation of e-waste and its management by the hospital. This research was carried out by observation and data collection at the hospital. Observation activities were carried out by observing the type and generation of e-waste existing condition of e-waste management. Furthermore, data collection was carried out by recording the year of procurement of electronic goods; the lifespan of electronics; storage time in the storage room; and type and specification of electronic goods based on the categories of types of electronic waste according to the Directive of the European Parliament of 4 July 2012. Data obtained were presented in the form of tables and curves. The results show that the generation of e-waste in BDH hospital is 6251 kg since 2020. The total types of e-waste produced are 576 units consisting of 123 units of temperature control equipment, 65 units of equipment with screens, 22 units of lighting equipment, 18 units of large equipment, 193 units of small equipment, and 155 units of small telecommunication and IT equipment. BDH hospital has managed e-waste because these items belong to the state and will be returned if unused. This complies with regulations regarding state asset management. Management aspects include containment, collection, and storage. However, the management of e-waste does not fully comply with specific waste management regulations
