Roles Of Shops In Generating And Reducing Plastic Wrapping Material Waste Along Mulyosari Street In Mulyorejo District, Surabaya City

Surabaya's strategic location in the heart of Indonesia makes it one of the most important trading hubs in Southeast Asia. The city is also one of the most important cities for the With a population of 3 million Surabaya has shown success in reducing municipal solid waste by 20% over the last 4 years, but unfortunately there is still a lot of plastic waste scattered in this city produced by many sectors, one of which was the trade sector. One of the most common types of plastic in the community is plastic wrapping material consisting of plastic bags, plastic sacks, styrofoam and mica food wrap. This research assessed the possibility of plastic wrapping material (PWM) waste generated and composition by stores, as well as store knowledge and participation in PWM regulations. The research area was located in Mulyosari Street, Mulyorejo District. Data were collected from 71 sampled stores out of 245, divided into 15 store groups using the manual collection of PWM waste generated and direct interviews. 71 samples were obtained used the slovin formula to determine the number of samples and using the proportional sampling formula to divide the stores of samples according to the real stores in the field. Then in direct interview 6 questions given using the Likert scale method and 7 questions with the yes/no method. Plastic sacks were the highest PWM waste generated (51.11%). Clothing store generated the highest PWM waste generation rate of 1.35 kg/store.day, with average PWM waste generation rate of 0.67 kg/store.day. The PWM waste was originated from discarded of the clothes plastic wrapping. The majority of stores (69%) used and generated PWM waste in their daily trading activities. Only 38% or 27 stores aware and support the Mayor Regulation no.16 of 2022 regarding the prohibition on the use of plastic bags.
