The article is devoted to the axiological dimension of human existence in the Japanese cultural tradition. Shinto, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism are considered as big values to the Japanese people. Owing to these values during the long history of Japanese society was formed clearly defined system of value orientations; was provided the unity of “original” and “borrowed” with the full and natural assimilation of “strange” (foreign) into “own”. It is proved that main role in this process belongs to Shinto as basis of “cultural creating” of forming the Japanese mentality.
