Living with Cancer: An Inside Look at the Families and Caregivers of Patients who have been Diagnosed with Cancer

For many years, researchers have studied the effects of cancer, both from physical and psychological perspectives. However, few studies focus on the experiences of caregivers. A caregiver is responsible for ensuring that the best treatment is given to the patient, keeping up with medications, taking them to and scheduling appointments, and making the patient feel supported. In order to properly care for the individual, the caregiver will need to make changes to their daily routine. These changes can influence the psychological and physical aspects of the caregiver. This research aims to provide a better understanding of the physical and psychological changes that are experienced throughout the caregiving process. This study will also reveal the various emotions associated with caregiving for a cancer patient such as depression, frustration, and isolation. Additionally, it will reveal how caregiving can affect the physical health of a caregiver due to the increase in physical demands. Using a mixed methods approach with surveys and a semi-structured interview; the data will be gathered. A thematic analysis will be conducted once the interviews are transcribed. The findings of this study will be used to inform healthcare professionals of the unique needs and experiences of caregivers
