The Role of Philosophy of Education in Initial Teacher Education

This paper aims to offer some ideas to show the relevance of Philosophy of Education for future teachers along their teacher’s education programs. To do so, this work will undertake – from the Practical Philosophy tradition – three main questions: (1) which conditions make a good initial teacher education; (2) which issues of teacher profession can be better understood from Philosophy of Education (discredit, disorientation and technification); and finally (3), it will offer three ideas about why Philosophy of Education is necessary for this profession (relation between philosophy and education, normativity and teachers as intellectuals).Utopía y Praxis Latinoamericana publica bajo licencia Creative Commons Atribución-No Comercial-Compartir Igual 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
