The first quantum revolution enabled inventions such as the laser and transistor, the basic building block of computers and smartphones. The nascent second quantum revolution, which is all about controlling individual quantum systems, such as atoms, ions, molecules, or even photons to a greater extent than before, allows the emergence of a new generation of optical and electronic apparel that use quantum effects to significantly enhance the performance over that of existing ‘classical’ technologies. In this context, this study was to our knowledge the first to study the patent, scientific publication and investment landscape related to quantum technologies
