OpenFOAM acts as a major player in the Open Source CFD arena, due to its flexibility, but its complexity also makes it more difficult to correctly define performance figure and scaling. One of the main bottlenecks for a full enabling of OpenFOAM for massively parallel cluster is the limit in its MPIparallelism paradigm, embodied in the Pstream library, which limits the scalability up to the orders of few thousands of cores.
