The term "global warming" refers to a slow increase in atmospheric temperature and the resulting modification of the global radiation balance, which are mostly caused by anthropogenic processes that result in local, regional, and worldwide climate change. According to recent estimations, the surface air temperature has risen by 0.5 to 0.7°C over the past 100 years. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is rising at a pace of 0.4%, or 3.2 billion tonnes, per year.
