Influence of Intrinsic, Extrinsic and Interpersonal Factors on Vocational Choice of Secondary School Students in Ogidi Education Zone of Anambra State

The study investigated the influence of intrinsic, extrinsic and interpersonal factors on vocational choice of students using descriptive survey research design. A total of 600 students were randomly selected from ten schools that constituted the sample for the study. Three research questions guided the study. The instrument used for data collection was validated by two experts in Measurement and Evaluation and Guidance and Counseling. The instrument was tagged Influence of Intrinsic, Extrinsic and Interpersonal factors on Vocational Choice of Students Questionnaires (IIEIVCSQ). The reliability and validity of the instrument were obtained. Weighted mean were used to answer the research questions. The major findings of the study identified was that intrinsic and extrinsic factors mainly have strong influence on vocational choice of adolescents in secondary schools while interpersonal factors has less influence on the adolescents choice of vocation. Therefore it was recommended that counsellors should not be loaded with school work so as to enable the counsellors to explore the interests, strength and weaknesses of students choice of vocation in relation to similar subjects related to their special abilities and interests. There is also the need to establish Guidance and Counselling units in all secondary schools to be manned by these experts
