From the first moments after the invasion of Poland on 1 September 1939, the German occupier began the process of destroying Polish education and science. Lessons on history, geography, literature and contemporary Poland were systematically removed from school curricula. Vocational schools were just to educate skilled workers for the German war industry. The organisation of education and teaching principles were different in the General Government, in the territories incorporated into the Third Reich, and in the territories occupied by the Germans after the aggression against the USSR.
