Calamotropha melanosticta is similar to C. punctivenella (Hampson, 1896) in the forewing pattern. It can be distinguished by the forewing with a brownish yellow streak from before the dark brown apical streak to M 1 and parallel to the subterminal fascia; the uncus bifurcated from distal 1/6, and the valva produced to a triangular dorsoapical process (Fig. 39); and the absence of the lamella postvaginalis in the female genitalia (Fig. 60). In C. punctivenella, the forewing has an indistinct fascia parallel to the subterminal fascia extending from before the dark brown apical streak to the dorsum (Fig. 24); the uncus is not furcated distally, and the valva has a spine-like dorsoapical process (Fig. 46); and the lamella postvaginalis is subquadrate (Fig. 66).
