Report on the role of civil society involvement in Crisis Management

The Role of Civil Society Involvement in Crisis Management – is a task focused on exploring the increasingly recognized role of civil society in crisis management. In T2.3, civil society includes volunteers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities. In order to identify the main challenges and best practices relating to the role of civil society in crisis management, a set of qualitative research methods were employed including semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and case studies with SnR organizations and volunteers, as well as local communities. This extensive research involving 45 semi-structured interviews, 3 focus groups, and 32 case studies allowed for the emergence of patterns and themes pinpointing the advantages, challenges, best practices, and limitations of civil society involvement in crisis management. The data collection and analysis in T2.3 culminated in D2.3 – Report on the Role of Civil Society Involvement in Crisis Management. D2.3 includes a detailed description of the research findings that are categorized according to the emergent themes. It also includes a SWOT analysis based on the themes. Moreover, the report and SWOT analysis are contextualized with the broader crisis management literature for further relevance. D2.3 concludes with a set of recommendations for future research, as well as the crisis management field more broadly
